Vegan that doesn't SUCK

I'm a meat & cheese eater. Going vegan for the animals or planet? Save your flippin' breath trying to convince me of that. Most people that do are just looking to advocate a cause, someway to rage against the machine. I just don't buy into changing minds & hearts like that, because in the long run it doesn't work, and just gets people all pissed off at you. I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling berating & belittling people into making my choices.

I like alternatives, when I can afford them, like grass fed meat or cheese products, not because they are better for the planet (still don't care that my food should have a higher cause except to feed me) but because they taste better. Same with chicken, eggs, and other meats except pork. You can keep your pork, I don't want it, no matter how "clean" it may be, it's still a pig, and still tears me up so bad inside.

I feel the same about veggies, I like organics because they taste better, not because of how they are raised. Even conventional stuff that just is grown closer to me tastes a lot better than crappy veggies about two days away from being far gone. I just don't like my food tasting like anything but food, and I don't want a whole bunch of chemicals and crap put in there that's not good for me. You can do & eat what you want.

But I need to go vegan again...sigh...just to recover my health. Last time I did, it really made a difference. Dropping meat & cheese for awhile will give my body a chance to finally recover completely from pregnancy, from eating a whole bunch of junk food for the last four years, and to keep these sneaky diseases I'm prone to taking hold on my body. Heck, even in the bible they talk about vegetable fasts. It also helps that going vegan is the quickest way to lose some serious weight, which would solve some of the health problems, if not all of them.

So I'm looking for Vegan recipes that don't suck. Last time I went completely vegan, it was great for awhile. I tried new foods, ate lots of curry, and then I got stuck in a huge rut of my not so good vegan muligatawny soup. I can't even eat the real thing, let alone my version now. I also found out that I hate miso, it tastes like rotten soybeans. Same with tempeh. Ick. Plus there's that whole allergy thing, like seriously I swelled up for a couple of hours. So miso flavor is out. Don't try to tell me it's good when it's not. I'm lucky I even like nutritional yeast, cause most people think it's nasty too. Bryana Clark shows some promise, vegan planet has a few, but mostly, I'm floating out in the cosmos, stuck eating Thai food or even weirder flavors that make me want to run screaming back to squeezy cheese in a can.

It may be false hope, but I still have some hope that I can find vegan recipes that don't suck so that I'm not stuck eating curry flavored tomato water with some frozen broccoli & cauliflower almost every night. I'll just have to keep looking.

Awwww....puppies!!

Okay, I've had a thing for puppies lately. They are just sooo cute! But this is incredibly out of character, as I don't want a puppy, I couldn't stand to have a puppy, and my kids are way too young to take care of a puppy. It even makes me cringe to think about a puppy in my house chewing everything and peeing everywhere. We don't have dogs in the house now, because of a very bad flea infestation in our old house, and I kicked out the one dog we did have at the time because the DH didn't take care of his own dog. I often joke that I had better stick around til the kids are grown, otherwise the kids may never see the doc! He just hates making his dogs do anything that they don't want to do, as he has no immunity to puppy eyes.

Soo...why the sudden puppy craze? It may be that we've had two puppies in the last week come in the shop. A little German shorthair and some other type that I don't remember. The little shorthair got to run around, and it was just so cute, wandering under cabinets and looking at everything through its little puppy eyes. The other puppy was in here for just a short time, but it was still cute.

Maybe it's because I know eventually, we'll have to get a puppy to replace our ancient dogs. Maybe it's a baby longing thing, because I can't have anymore because of health problems, and I'm transferring the desire to something I can have when I'm ready.

Or maybe it's just that puppies are damn cute.
